A day that honors dead soldiers is always one of mixed emotions. We are proud of the glory they have won, proud of the job they have done to keep us free. And we are sad that good men had to suffer and die.

Several Southern states continue to set aside a day, called Confederate Memorial Day, to pay tribute to those who served with the Confederate forces during the American Civil War.

Today, Confederate Memorial Day, is celebrated as follows:

  • Alabama: Fourth Monday in April
  • Florida: April 26
  • Georgia: April 26
  • Louisiana: June 3
  • Mississippi: Last Monday in April
  • North Carolina: May 10
  • South Carolina: May 10
  • Tennessee (Confederate Decoration Day): June 3
  • Texas (Confederate Heroes Day): January 19
  • Virginia: Last Monday in May
